"The study of asana is not about mastering posture.
It's about using posture to understand and transform yourself."

Iyengar Yoga Workshop

Iyengar yoga is defined by its precision and accessibility. The use of props, belts, blankets, chairs- make it accessible to people of all ages and abilities.  A detailed approach to the poses emphasizes alignment, sequencing and timing, helping students develop strength, mobility and awareness.  Working methodically draws the attention inward, calms the nervous system and brings a sense of of rhythm and order to the mind.

Each posture offers a structure through which we meet ourselves clearly, without pretense.  Practice teaches us how to stay, how to build both physical and mental stamina, how to pause before reacting, to listen before rushing, to breathe before speaking. How we practice on the mat reflects who we are in the world.
